Free Iranian blogger, Hossein Ronaghi Maleki

Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, Iranian blogger/human rights activist, and his brother were arrested on December 13, 2009. Hossein is still held in section 2, alef at the ward of the Revolutionary Guard, in the notorious Evin prison, Tehran. No reason for his arrest has been presented, nor a trial date has been set.

Since his arrest, Hossein has been under severe physical and mental torture and has gone on a hunger strike once. Today we were informed that he has been under pressure for a TV interview and false confessions. In protest to the increasing pressure on himself and his family, Hossein has resumed his hunger strike.

We, a group of Iranian bloggers, are calling for the immediate release of Hossein Ronaghi Maleki. We hold the Islamic Republic of Iran responsible for Hossein's life. We urge all human rights activists to immediately contact international human rights organizations as well as their local officials and urge them to pressure the Iranian government to observe the basic rights of the political prisoners. Iranian prisons have become the slaughterhouse of political and human rights activists. Immediate intervention of the the United Nations and international human rights organizations and sending inspection delegations, is of utmost importance, to save the lives of thousands of helpless political prisoners in Iran, including Hossein Ronaghi Maleki.
